Barrel Racing Lessons
Beginners learn direct rein and indirect rein, how to control horse by leg pressure, proper body position for walking and trotting, basic barrel pattern and pole pattern, how to saddle / unsaddle horse using various equipment, learn body parts of the horse, and how to ride bareback maintaining balance and control. Intermediate students learn how to canter figure 8's, spirals, and the barrel and pole pattern. Exercises are performed to side pass, change leads, do roll backs, and other exercises relative to basic horsemanship. Advanced students learn how to rate barrels, correct problem areas on their horse, and determine proper equipment for individual horses. Riders are exposed to many horses to develop experience with handling different styles and problem areas. Emphasis is put on competition, and training techniques. Hauling is available to intermediate and advanced students to local competitions. Videos of competitive runs are studied for students to overcome riding weakness and to point out particular strengths. Programs are available for students to purchase the horse they are riding if they discover that they are a good match. This assures that horse and rider are compatible, and that the horse fits the needs of the student. Therefore, the possibility of buying a problem horse is eliminated. Barrel horses and tack are provided, or students can learn on their own horse. |
